Rear Adm. James Hart, U.S. Navy, assumes command of Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa during a change of command ceremony Feb. 14.
Admiral Hart, a 31-year Navy veteran, assumes command from Rear Adm. Richard Hunt, who has led the command since April 2006. Following a successful 10-month tour, Admiral Hunt has been reassigned to the Pentagon as director of surface warfare, N-86, in the office of the chief of naval operations.
A native New Yorker, Admiral Hart assumes command of an organization with a mission to conduct unified action in the Horn of Africa to prevent conflict, promote regional stability and protect coalition interests. CJTF-HOA does this through humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and civic action programs to include medical and veterinary care, school and medical clinic construction, and water development projects.
