U.S. Applauds Kenyan Anti-Corruption Commission on Joint Fraud Investigation
August 2, 2007
The United States greatly appreciates the work of the Kenyan Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) in working closely with our Embassy’s security office in making the arrest on Thursday, 2nd August 2007 of an Embassy employee who appears to have been involved in fraud. After a thorough investigation the KACC and the Embassy are satisfied that the fraud does not extend beyond this one individual who is accused of having extorted money from visa applicants to help them get visas. Embassy security officials worked closely with officers from the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission throughout this investigation in a joint cooperative effort.
We would like to remind prospective applicants for all types of visas that there is an honest, legitimate and legal way to obtain them, information about which is available at http://nairobi.usembassy.gov/. We look forward to continued cooperation with Kenyan authorities to maintain the visa issuance program’s integrity.
The Embassy welcomes information from anyone about attempts to perpetrate visa fraud. Information can be provided to the Embassy at the following e-mail address: consularnairob@state.gov.
