THE 2009 DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT VISA PROGRAM (DV-2009)

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually, drawn from a random selection of entries from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. Diversity immigrant visas lead to U.S. permanent residency.
For DV-2009, natives of the following countries are NOT eligible because they have graduated from the program.
BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, PERU, POLAND, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.

Entries for the DV-2009 Diversity Visa lottery must be submitted electronically though http://www.dvlottery.state.gov between noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), Wednesday, October 3, 2007 and noon Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5)
